Set to debut formally in UK showrooms Summer 2009, Skoda chairman Reinhard Jung has confirmed that the all-terrain, compact Skoda Yeti SUV is scheduled to hit dealer lots in early 2010. Intended to compete similar vehicles in its segment like the Toyota RAV4 and Ford Kuga, the Skoda Yeti boasts impressive off-roading capabilities in relatively small, fuel-efficient package.

Available with either a FWD or Haldex 4×4 drivetrain, engine options for the Skoda Yeti are still unclear but are expected to include 1.8L and 2.0L gasoline variants as well as either a 1.9L or 2.0L diesel TDI. Depending partly on how much success the Yeti is met with, Skoda also has tentative plans to release a higher-end, luxury version of the Yeti dubbed the “Superb.” The Superb estate will draw heavy influence from the Yeti, both aesthetically and technically speaking, but is ultimately intended to appeal to customers of Tier 1 vehicles like the BMW 3-Series Touring and the Audi A4 Avant.
